Brain and Behavior


The lectured notes covered the bases of the brain and its functions, all of which I found quite interesting. The left and right side of the brain have their functions but work as a unit through a thick band of nerves, the corpus callosum. The physical attributes, brain cells, and anatomy is broken down into sections CNS, PNS, Forebrain, Midbrain, Hindbrain, and the four lobes.

The Forebrain interests me most, it includes, hypothalamus, epithalamus, and thalamus. As stated in my previous blogs I have always been interested in human behavior, so naturally I am drawn to know how and where the human behavior derives from or is stored. The forebrain is what makes us human.  

Thalamus – sensory and motor

Epithalamus – pineal gland – regulate through secretion or hormones

Hypothalamus – hormone production – food intake, sex drive, body temperature

Furthermore, I found what Anajan Chatterjee had to say about Beauty quite alarming. Our hormones and sight have a lot to do with how the ones that are most beautiful find themselves easily employed and less reprimanded with in a workplace. Why is our emotion of how we perceive someone so strong we impetuously make these decisions.

  2. I really enjoyed reading your blog I also found it very interesting! I loved how you explained every section that was described as well as adding a picture as a visual reference which really helps me. I think that it would also help to have a diagram with labels to each section. Great job on this blog!

  3. Hi Kristina,
    The human brain is very fascinating. I perform carotid ultrasounds at my job to diagnose carotid stenosis. We ask the patients for symptoms and history and if they suffer from weakness on only one side of the body, I expect to find blockage on the opposite side of their neck in carotid artery. If the test shows carotid stenosis or occlusion on only one side, it is because the affected side of the brain is not getting the perfusion of blood and oxygen needed. This can lead to strokes on the side of the brain not receiving the perfusion and the opposite side of the body is usually affected with weakness or paralysis. I thought of my job when I read your interesting post about the different brain functions. Great post!

  4. I wish you had included the link of the research/video where "Anajan Chatterjee" talks about beauty. Also including sources in the end would help to know what all material you used to pull your article content together.
